The Malta Degree

The Ceremony

The Malta Degree is conferred on Candidates who have already been Installed as Knights Templar. On becoming a Knight of Malta, candidates are in fact participating in a ceremony comprising of two separate parts, that of becoming a Knight of St. Paul (the Mediterranean Pass), and then that of becoming a full Knight of St. John of Jerusalem, Palestine, Rhodes and Malta.

Knight of St. Paul

This is a short passing degree conferred in a room adjoining a Priory of Malta in the course of which the Mediterranean Pass is communicated. The candidate learns of the travels of St. Paul and how he arrived on the Island of Malta.
